One of the slight drawbacks of using Joomla as a CMS platform versus Wordpress and Drupal is its lack of a native commenting system for its blogs and articles. Commenting is a crucial part of social networking and a great way to improve your link building and SEO.
Disqus (procounced Discuss) is a free commenting service that -amongst its many benefits- allows your users to log in using existing networks such as Twitter and Facebook, removing the potentially alienating task of asking them to create yet another account, and will encourage the casual visitor to get involved and contribute.
Disqus is free, and all you need to do is create an account with them (yes, but it's well worth it) and you're good to go. It can be implemented into any site, including Joomla.
Joomla Integration
Integration Disqus into you Joomla site couldn't be easier. The guys at Joomlaworks have released a great (free!) Joomla plugin that quickly and easily integrates your Disqus account into your content. You can pick which categories or menu items are included, and the whole process is surprisingly and pleasantly painless.
You can sign up to discuss here, and grab the plugin for Joomla by Joomlaworks here.
Happy commenting!
